The event includes a short science film, a guided tour of state-of-the-art imaging and structural biology facilities, and a simple ‘grow-your-own crystal’ activity. This relaxed, interactive session is designed to spark curiosity and show how exciting—and accessible—biophysics can be.

The event showcases cutting-edge research, educational initiatives, and interdisciplinary approaches developed despite the challenges of war. Special emphasis is placed on the voices of early-career researchers, PhD students, and students who represent the future of biophysics in Ukraine. Through scientific talks, discussions, and personal perspectives, the event demonstrates how biophysics continues to contribute to medicine, technology, and education. This meeting is both a celebration of scientific excellence and a message of resilience, solidarity, and commitment to global biophysical science.

Mass Photometry – Theory and Practical Applications

Mass photometry is a relatively new single molecule approach to investigate biomolecular interactions that is quickly becoming a research “gold standard”. Its simplicity allows for a range of questions to be explored and also a powerful tool to support other structural biology methodologies. Features of the technique allow us to observe and quantify all populations of molecules within a sample, meaning rare species and inteactions can be explored that may not be available with other methods.Now at the University of Chile, we have one of only two mass photometers in Latino America. This course will explain the theoretical concepts behind the technology and introduce attendees to the types of studies that can be performed with mass photometry. Using a combination of oral presentations, practical demonstrations and group discussions this course will encourage students to consider how they can develop their current research and/or design new projects with mass photometry.
