Biophysicists Join Effort to Eliminate Sexual Harassment in STEMM

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society (BPS) is proud to add its name and support to the Societies Consortium on Sexual Harassment in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) to measurably advance professional and ethical conduct, climate and culture across their respective fields. The Societies Consortium is committed to producing impactful operational resources in high demand by societies and the field in the short-term, while working to change the climate and culture in the long-term.

“The Biophysical Society is proud to join the Societies Consortium and promote diversity and inclusion, not only within biophysics, but in the larger STEMM community,” said David W. Piston, PhD, BPS President. “Our involvement in this effort allows us to not only share our member experiences, but provide input into the policy recommendations that impact current and future generations of scientists, mathematicians, engineers and physicians. We look forward to being an active participant for change.”

The Societies Consortium was established by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the American Geophysical Union (AGU), with EducationCounsel serving as the policy and law consultant for the initiative. Debuting at the conclusion of 2018 with 53 inaugural member societies representing disciplines across STEMM, now counts more than 100 organizations as supporting the initiative.
