There’s something special about packing your suitcase for the Biophysical Society Annual Meeting every year, and lots of excitement. As an international attendee, I am especially aware that this might be the last year one can attend, or at least that's what I think every year. It’s my third time at BPS, but my first platform talk. I have to admit, it’s exciting… and a little nerve-wracking at the same time.
I still remember my first BPS meeting, overwhelmed by the sheer number of posters and the energy of so many friendly scientists in one place. It felt huge, intense, and inspiring. And I’m sure this year won’t disappoint.
✈️ Airport Mode: Revision + App Exploration
Flights can be a great opportunity for last-minute checks. Between boarding calls and cloudy views at 30,000 feet, it’s the perfect moment to:
- Make those last speech revisions
- Time your slides/poster speech (again)
- Cut one extra sentence you don’t really need, though often, it ends up being the opposite.
- Explore the BPS app! I didn’t get much time before departure to dive deep into the schedule, but I’ve already started browsing the app. First search? PROTACs: Two great posters popped up immediately.
🌦 From Snow to Bay Weather
Leaving snowy Moscow, Idaho ❄️ and landing in that classic San Francisco mix 7/16°C, rainy/cloudy with occasional ☀️, well, today is sunny, feels like entering a different season for me.
Getting from the airport to Union Square?
🚆 Use BART transportation (~30 minutes): first, take the AirTrain Blue Line toward Garage B and BART. Next, take the BART Yellow or Red Line and get off at Powell St.
Each year, I debate the same question: Comfortable shoes or something more glam? Every year, I’m grateful I packed sneakers.
For walking between sessions, poster halls, airport terminals, and for those “I’ll just explore a bit” evenings. Bring comfortable shoes. You’ll thank yourself!
🤖 Don’t Hesitate to Use AI
Traveling for conferences can be overwhelming, especially in a city like San Francisco. If you find yourself with a free hour near Union Square, just ask:
What can I explore nearby?
Where should I eat?
What’s walking distance?
How do I get there efficiently?
Sometimes the best travel assistant fits in your pocket.
This year, my bucket list includes some interesting talks, lots of posters, buying my own printed protein, and, if possible, seeing the Golden Gate Bridge.
If the previous years are any indication, this one won’t disappoint.
See you at #BPS2026!
