The first day of BPS anuual meeting 2025

Undergraduate Poster Award Competiton

point of this topic

  • I was overwhelmed
  • The undergraduate students look so fun

I listened to about three poster explanations. Their topics and their way of talking were amazing. I can't believe they are undergraduate students; they look like real researchers. Three fifth-year students from my university joined the competition. (Our university's undergraduate pharmacy department has six years ) They struggled to answer the judges' questions but they said it was a good experience.

(I was allowed to upload her poster on this blog)

One of the Poster presentations made me surprised, the title was "Investigating the Environmental Conditions Governing Actin-Microtuble Crosslinking". Her way of speaking was so attractive and clear. She talked with the listener like a close friend and sometimes told jokes so it was fun listening to her presentation.

Anyway, I felt I needed to study harder and harder because understanding their poster wasn't easy for me. The competition stimulated me.

First-Time Attendee Networking

point of this topic

  • Best event to have relationships with BPS member

This is the first time for me joined BPS annual meeting, so I went to this event and found that this is the best event to have conversation with attendees. In the morning, I tried to have connections with many people but it wasn't easy. However, by joining this event, you can easily talk with BPS members and share your background. I had chance to talk with three of them for about an hour, and it was so fun. Some of the topics were difficult for me, but I tried hard to be in the conversation. I couldn't answer high-level questions but could share my background and what I felt listening to their topics. When I said that, the professor told interesting stories related to it. Everyone is so kind.

Surprised things

point of this topic

  • unexpected large hall and many people
  • diversity
  • free goods (sunglasses, bags, pens, clips)

As I said in the last topic, I joined BPS annual meeting for the First time. At first, When I saw the convention Hall from the car, I was surprised by the size. Also, the inside is amazing, they have many rooms, a wide hallway, enough restrooms, and they are all clean. I was comfortable to be here. In the morning, around 8 am, unexpectedly many people lined up in front of the registration place. On the first day, you should come earlier than 8 am if you don't want to line up.

Before I came to this meeting, I expected that it would be rare to see Asian people, but it was not. I saw many Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese. Also what surprised me is that the balance of men and women. I think the ratio is almost the same. I can't believe that because when I joined the conference in Japan, the number of women was less than 10%. I was relieved that I could be here naturally.

Did you get free items of BPS annual meeting? In the west lobby, behind the escalator, you can get a tote bag, sunglasses, a flashlight pen, and a clip. Why don't you bring them back to your colleagues?
