COVID-19: Science, Stories, and Resources

Science Articles

The Biophysical Society is sharing science articles to help educate and communicate information about the rapidly evolving findings and effects of COVID-19.

Kicking Off BPS2026: A Graphical Abstract for the Annual Meeting

As scientists, most of us have likely heard “publish or perish” at some point in our research journeys. It is an aphorism that captures both the pressure and persistence behind every paper we write. Yet, within every deadline and revision, there are moments of creativity and joy in the process. Here is an ode to my favorite part of drafting a manuscript (and my moment of joy)—the graphical abstract. The Journal of Clinical Investigation defines a graphical abstract as a single schematic image that visually represents the primary findings of an article. As a guest blogger, I have created a graphical abstract for BPS2026. This abstract should give you a good idea of what to expect at BPS2026. Whether it is hippocampal-stimulating scientific sessions or amygdala-triggering, fear-inducing flash talks, all roads lead to networking and professional development for attendees.

Also, below are some key upcoming events to look out:

  • Opening mixer (02/21/2026, 5:00 PM-7:00PM, South Lower Lobby): A great way to make new connections or reconnect with old ones.
  • First-time attendee networking event (02/21/2026, 5:00 PM–6:00 PM): This is a must for first-time attendees! It happens right next to the opening mixer, and you can weave in and out as you see fit. Remember to grab and wear your badge that says, “first-time attendee”. It lets other first-time attendees know you are in the same boat as them and other tenured attendees as well. Remember, you are only a first-time attendee once, so make the most of it!
  • Dinner meet-ups: Take place most evenings and a great way to connect with new scientists outside of your institution, research area, or locality. I have attended in the past and found them to be a nice, low-pressure way to learn about your fellow attendees over a delicious meal. This is especially nice if you are at the conference solo or want to make new connections outside of your group.

Lastly, to make my blog interactive, I have included a short poll at the end. I am curious to know how many attendees are first-timers, second-timers, third-timers, or long-time participants. Also, where is everyone traveling from—within California (or already in San Francisco), across the U.S., or internationally? If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to fill out the poll below!
