BETHESDA, MD – The Biophysical Society is proud to announce its 2027 Society Fellows. This award honors the Society’s distinguished members who have demonstrated excellence in science and contributed to the expansion of the field of biophysics. The Fellows will be honored at the Society’s 71st Annual Meeting, being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from February 20-24, 2027.
The 2027 Fellows are:
James M. Berger, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, USA, for groundbreaking research integrating structural, biophysical, and biochemical methods to uncover how dynamic molecular assemblies govern DNA replication, gene expression, and chromosome organization.
Cecilia Clementi, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, for pioneering contributions to the theoretical foundations of protein dynamics and transformative integration of machine learning with physics-based coarse-grained modeling.
Songi Han, Northwestern University, USA, for outstanding contributions to the development and application of magnetic resonance to address challenges in biophysics, molecular biochemistry, and soft materials science, and for inventive, interdisciplinary strategies to advance our understanding of crucial processes in nature, including the role of water, and their impact on human health.
Grant J. Jensen, Brigham Young University, USA, for advancing the field of structural biology by being a major leader in the development and use of cryo-electron tomography, encompassing significant technological and biological discoveries, all while providing exceptional leadership in the broader scientific community.
Emad Tajkhorshid, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. USA, for significant contributions to studies of membrane proteins and developments enabling computational methodologies.
