At the Biophysical Society, we believe no scientist should have to step away from their community—or their science—because of a temporary financial setback.
Bridging Funds, which are intended to provide additional support to those experiencing a lapse in funding, were first offered to members for the 2016 Annual Meeting. At their May meeting, BPS Council discussed the anticipated increase in need for Bridging Funds in 2026 given the significant reductions in US federal funding for NIH and NSF. With supporting members and keeping the biophysics community strong as central goals, Council decided to expand the Bridging Funds program for 2026.
The BPS Bridging Funds Support Program will help members who are between jobs, facing reduced funding, or managing unexpected challenges attend the BPS 2026 Annual Meeting and stay connected to their professional network. A minimum of 50 members will be funded with $500 USD each through this program.
Here’s how you can help:
Now through November 7, BPS will match every donation to the Bridging Funds Program, up to $25,000. Every gift you make will go twice as far in supporting your fellow biophysicists at a vulnerable moment in their careers.
Your donation doesn’t just fund meeting participation—it helps sustain a career. Donate today.
Or, if you need help:
If you’re navigating a difficult time, please know this program was created for you. Bridging Funds are available to help with the costs to attend the BPS Annual Meeting so you can continue to share your science, build connections, and move forward.
