BETHESDA, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Rumiana Dimova, of the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany, will receive the 2027 Agnes Pockels Award in Lipids and Membrane Biophysics. Dimova will be honored at the Society’s 71st Annual Meeting, being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from February 20-24, 2027.

Dimova, will receive the Agnes Pockels Award in Lipids and Membrane Biophysics for studies on creating, manipulating, and analyzing giant unilamellar vesicles, enabling breakthroughs in mechanical analysis, minimal reconstitutions of membrane reshaping, and characterizing interactions with biomolecular condensates.

“Rumiana’s contributions to lipid and membrane biophysics build on and extend Agnes Pockels’s legacy,” said BPS President Karen Fleming of Johns Hopkins University. “It is an honor to recognize this internationally recognized researcher known for her development of new physical techniques to interrogate membrane systems.”

About the Award - The Agnes Pockels Award in Lipids and Membrane Biophysics will be given to an investigator for outstanding contributions to advancing the field of lipids and membrane biophysics. This award honors its namesake, whose outstanding research was fundamental in establishing the discipline known as surface science.
