BETHESDA, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Robert M. Stroud, of the University of California, San Francisco, USA, will receive the Society’s 2027 Founders Award. Stroud will be honored at the Society’s 71st Annual Meeting, being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from February 20-24, 2027.
Stroud will receive the Founders Award for substantial and extensive contributions to our structural understanding of membrane-related proteins.
“I am honored to recognize Robert with this year’s Founders Award,” said BPS President Karen Fleming of Johns Hopkins University. “This distinction allows us to call attention to those whose sustained and remarkable achievements in biophysics best embody our values and achievements. Through an extraordinary career in structural biophysics, Robert has transformed our understanding of molecular mechanisms in enzymology, cell signaling, and membrane biology. His pioneering work has revealed the atomic-level structures and mechanisms of vital macromolecules, leaving an enduring mark on biomedical science and the field of biophysics.”
About the Award - The Founders Award recognizes a scientist for outstanding achievements in any area of biophysics. As the name indicates, the award often goes to a biophysicist whose contributions are adopted widely, sometimes even beyond the field of biophysics.
