Songi Han to Receive 2019 BPS Innovation Award

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society (BPS) has named Songi Han, Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, Santa Barbara, its 2019 Innovation Award winner. Han will be honored at the Society’s 63rd Annual Meeting at the Baltimore Convention Center on March 5, 2019, during the annual Awards Symposium.

Han will be recognized for her inventions of solid-state and time-domain-capable dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) instrumentation and of Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization to characterize surface water in biological and soft materials that advance our fundamental understanding of biological hydration.

“Songi Han is an innovative research who has advanced our fundamental understanding of Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization for characterizing surface water properties,” said BPS President Angela Gronenborn, University of Pittsburgh. “We are proud to recognize her methodological innovations at our Annual Meeting in 2019.”

The BPS Innovation Award recognizes a BPS member who advances the fundamental understanding of biological systems through the development of novel theory, models, concepts, techniques, or applications.
