Kandice Levental and Ilya Levental to Receive 2024 Avanti Award in Lipids

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Kandice Levental, PhD and Ilya Levental, PhD, both of the University of Virginia, will receive the 2024 Avanti Award in Lipids. Kandice and Ilya will be honored at the Society’s 68th Annual Meeting, being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from February 10-14, 2024.

Kandice and Ilya are being honored for their collaborative, innovative, and creative science which has made outstanding contributions to the understanding of lipid biophysics, putting them among the world leaders in the field of membrane biophysics.

“Together, Kandice and Ilya have worked to push the boundaries of our understanding of lipid biophysics. Through their work, the Levental lab bridges classical membrane biophysics with cell biology,” said BPS President Taekjip Ha of Harvard Medical School. “Kandice and Ilya’s work have effectively pushed both fields forward, making membrane biophysics more biologically relevant. I am honored to recognize the collective work of these two outstanding researchers.”

About the Award - Avanti Polar Lipids, Inc., established this award to recognize an investigator for outstanding contributions to our understanding of lipid biophysics.
