The Biophysical Society provides opportunities for members to get involved in programs targeted to both the Biophysical Society membership and the public. Depending on your area of interest, there are opportunities to be involved with the Society’s committees, outreach efforts to the public, K-12 programs, and advocacy efforts. Volunteering allows members to give back to the community and to grow professionally.
BPS members interested in helping others in the field are encouraged to join the National Reserach Mentoring Network (NMRN), funded by the NIH. Visit NRMNet today to begin.
BPS has sponsored student awards at regional and state science fairs since 2009. This growing initiative promotes the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering, and math in US schools, and raises awareness about biophysics at the high school level. For a list of fairs where the Society has already committed to giving an award, go here. In addition, the Society will sponsor an award at regional and state science fairs where members are willing to judge. Interested in being a judge at a science fair? Email SciFairs@biophysics.org!
The Biophysical Society Committees are essential to the implementation of the Society's stated purpose to encourage development and dissemination of knowledge in biophysics. Committee members and chairs in all but two of the Society's fourteen committees serve three-year terms, renewable once. All new and continuing committee appointments are approved by Council when it meets each year at the Annual Meeting. Committee members must be current Society members at the time of their appointment.Society members wishing to be more involved in Society activities are encouraged to submit a volunteer form and indicate their interest in one or more of the following committees: early careers, education, international relations, membership, minority affairs, professional opportunities for women, public affairs, or publications. Volunteer forms submitted by October 1, 2017, will be considered for appointment in 2018. Sign up to volunteer.
