Richard Pastor to Receive 2021 Avanti Award in Lipids

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Richard Pastor, PhD, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, will receive the 2021 Avanti Award in Lipids. Pastor will be honored at the Society’s 65th Annual Meeting, being held virtually, February 22-26, 2021.

Pastor is being recognized for his for his pioneering MD Simulations of lipids and development of widely used lipid forcefield. Avanti Polar Lipids, Inc., established this award to recognize an investigator for outstanding contributions to our understanding of lipid biophysics.

“The Avanti Award allows the Society to highlight and reflect on a researcher’s contributions to the biophysics of lipids,” said BPS President Catherine A. Royer, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. “Richard’s work over the past forty years has helped further our understanding of lipids.  We look forward to honouring his work and expanding the legacy by which he will be remembered by future biophysicists.”

The Avanti Award in Lipids, supported by Avanti Polar Lipids, Inc., was established to recognize an outstanding investigator who has made a significant contribution to the understanding of lipid biophysics.
