This memorial symposium honors the life, scientific contributions, and enduring legacy of Stephen H. White, whose research, mentorship, and leadership profoundly shaped modern membrane biophysics. Throughout his distinguished career, Steve combined rigorous experimentation, quantitative analysis, and computer simulation with a deep commitment to fundamental physical principles. His work advanced our understanding of lipid bilayers and the structure, function, and folding of membrane proteins.
The symposium will bring together colleagues, collaborators, former trainees, and members of the broader biophysics community to celebrate Steve’s impact and reflect on the scientific frameworks he helped establish. It will honor the depth of his scholarship and the continuing influence of his ideas on current and future studies of membranes and membrane proteins.
