Communicating the Value of Biophysics in a Changing World

Sunday, February 22, 2026
10:45 AM - 12:45 PM

Conveying the value of science to the public has always been important, and has taken on new urgency in light of recent world events, including the pandemic and major changes in US policies. As scientists working at the interface of physics and biology, we are ideal communicators. We have a broad range of perspectives on science and its potential for improving human health, and we have experience learning, collaborating, and communicating across disciplines.

This year's President’s Symposium serves to inspire and empower biophysicists to tell stories about science and scientists that build public confidence in and enthusiasm for science. Speakers will discuss perspectives on the current crisis in US investment in science, and approaches for conveying the value of research to human health and prosperity. The symposium will conclude with specific examples of effective outreach activities being conducted by BPS members.
