COVID-19 Protocols

The Biophysical Society 66th Annual Meeting is planned as an in-person meeting February 19-23, 2022, in San Francisco, California. 

Reporting a positive COVID-19 test to BPS

BPS is dedicated to ensuring a safe event experience in San Francisco,  Vaccinations and masks are required for all attendees, speakers, vendors, guests and staff.  Despite these precautions, breakthrough cases are possible.  If you have received a positive test for Covid:

  • Do not return to the event
  • Follow the guidelines from the San Francisco Public Health Department and CDC on quarantine
  • Inform those you have had close contact with of your positive test

Health and Safety: What to Expect at the BPS 66th Annual Meeting 

  • All participants at the BPS Meeting whether a presenter, attendee, exhibitor, vendor, guest, or staff are required to be fully vaccinated, and if eligible, must have received a booster.  (see more details on vaccination below) 

  • Masks will be mandatory for all indoor spaces 

  • Hand sanitizers in high touch locations: 

  • Badge Pick up

  • Elevator Landings 

  • Main entryways (middle lobby)

  • Escalator Landings 

  • Daily janitorial cleaning and disinfecting all high touch surfaces using the Clorox Pro T360 disinfecting cleaner 

  • Door hardware

  • Escalator/Stair rails 

  • Light switches

  • Restroom Fixtures 

  • Elevator Buttons

  • Kiosks and Telephones 

  • The Moscone Center uses MERV 3 pocket filters with MERV 8 pre-filters in accordance with LEED Platinum standards.  Moscone has also optimized HVAC systems to provide the maximum number of air exchangers per hour in each space. 


Proof of Vaccination/Booster  

Proof of vaccination and if eligible a booster is mandatory to enter the Moscone Center.  Vaccines authorized by the US FDA or by the World Health Organization (WHO) will satisfy the city of San Francisco requirements. 

  • If you received your initial vaccination shots within the last six (6) months (after August 17, 2021, but before February 2, 2022) you are considered fully vaccinated and are not required to have a booster to attend the meeting. 

  • If you received your initial vaccination shots outside of six (6) months (prior to August 17, 2021) you would need to have received a booster to be considered fully vaccinated to attend the meeting. 

All attendees must be vaccination verified through CrowdPass, a HIPPA compliant service provider.  All attendees will be sent a link to upload vaccination documents. Once vaccinations/booster have been verified an email with a QR code will be emailed. Please  make sure to have the QR code email ready when arriving at the Moscone Center. 

All vaccinations will need to be verified no later than February 9, 2022, 11:59 PM, USA Eastern.
A negative COVID test or exemptions will NOT be accepted and there will  be NO on-site registration.


International Travel 

If you plan to travel internationally, you will need to get a COVID-19 viral test (regardless of vaccination status or citizenship) no more than 1 day before you travel by air into the United States. You must show your negative result to the airlines before you board your flight.

When Arriving at the Moscone Center 

BPS has chosen an entry and proof of vaccination protocol that balances safety and convenience.  Proof of vaccination will be checked at the Moscone South doors.  After showing proof, you may proceed to the badge pick up area to pick up your badge.  Signs will be posted with instructions, and we ask for your patience as we move people into the building. 

Tips to be prepared and expedite your entrance: 

  • Wear your mask 

  • Have proof vaccination QR code and identification in hand 

  • Follow the instructions to pick up your badge 

Please remember anyone NOT registered in advance, guest/spouse etc. will not be allowed entry. 


What to Expect When Visiting San Francisco 

  • All San Francisco hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, and gyms will be required to obtain proof of vaccination from patrons and employees.  It is highly recommended that you bring your vaccination document with you when you travel to San Francisco.  The CrowdPass verification system will ONLY be used to gain access into the Moscone Center to attend the BPS Annual Meeting.  

  • Masks are required at the Moscone Center.


Onsite Covid Testing

The Biophysical Society has arranged with SafeExpo to provide Covid testing at the Moscone Center.  International travelers should check with their airline to determine testing requirements before their departure flight.

Keep in mind that Monday and Tuesday will be the busiest testing days, specifically for travel.

Tests provided:
Rapid Antigen:  $50 per test/results in 15 minutes
Molecular RT-Lamp:  $150 per test/results in 30 minutes
PCR:  $200 per test/results in 30 minutes

If you have a positive test result, SafeExpo will provide further information for follow-up testing.

The City of San Francisco recommends that any time you feel sick or have a known exposure, get tested.  You can find a map of free and paid testing options throughout the city.
