Invitation from the Program Chairs

We have monitored the pandemic closely since our 2020 meeting in San Diego, watched its ebb and flow. By early summer it was obvious that despite our strong wishes to meet in person in Boston in February to celebrate the 2021 Annual Meeting of our Society, this would not be possible—this is not the time for travel or large public gatherings. Precisely because of our inevitable sense of dislocation, it is imperative that we find a way to sustain our conversations around biophysics, to organize a forum where we can share the latest results from our labs, one that offers our young colleagues around the world the opportunity to discuss their research and a chance to maintain their momentum.

After careful consideration we have decided to move forward with a virtual meeting. We are certain this will provide the quality science you expect at a BPS meeting, that it will succeed at bringing us together for targeted discussion of pressing science and the informal exchange that will sustain the energy and vibrancy of our community through these difficult and uncertain times.

Mark your calendars: the virtual 2021 Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society will take place on February 22-26. We invite you to participate by submitting your research for consideration for a platform session or poster presentation. Abstracts are now being accepted. The subgroup symposia will proceed as planned.  Special symposia will include Future of Biophysics, New and Notable, a Biophysical Journal Symposium and the BPS Lecture.  There will be career, funding and journal panels, and ample opportunities for networking and for seeding collaborations.  This might not be the ideal way to meet, but we are certain this virtual meeting will have something for everybody, that it will succeed at a high level, and that it will keep our community engaged until we meet in San Francisco in 2022.

Connect through Research!

Submit your abstract and connect with researchers in biophysics from around the world.  While the Annual Meeting will be held virtually you can still submit an abstract to present a poster or be considered for an oral presentation.  Don’t miss out on all of the benefits that sharing your research can offer such as:

  • Professional Development. Enhance your CV as a presenting author.
  • Publication Credit. Publish your accepted abstract in a supplement to the Biophysical Journal.
  • A Visible Platform. Submit your abstract by the October 1 to be considered for an oral presentation and to present your research to the BPS community.
  • Constructive Feedback.  Get insightful reactions to the ideas and approaches in your research methods from industry colleagues.
  • Strategic Connections.  Increase your visibility and leadership potential by engaging with other leading experts from around the globe.

The scientific Program Committee reviews each submitted abstract.  The high scientific quality of each abstract is what makes the BPS Annual Meeting the leading international forum for interdisciplinary research.

Submit your abstract by October 1, 2020, to be included in this vital biophysics community.
