International Travel Grant
Submission Deadline has passed.
To assist
students and a small number of more senior scientists, the Biophysical Society
and IUPAB have limited funds available for travel fellowships to the 2008
Joint Meeting of the Biophysical Society and the IUPAB International Congress.
Each award may be applied towards roundtrip airfare to the Meeting. The purpose
of these travel fellowships is to foster and initiate further interaction among
biophysicists and scientists working in countries experiencing financial
difficulties.
The
following eligibility requirements must be met:

The
applicant is performing research in countries experiencing financial
constraints.
-
The
applicant should be the presenting author.
-
The
following materials are required at time of on line submission by each
applicant:
-
Copy of the abstract submitted for presentation at the Meeting.
-
A
short (1 page) Curriculum Vitae containing the most relevant
publications and description of current research interests and goals.
-
A
list of any previous meetings attended and sources of support.
-
A request for partial or total support and rationale for request.
-
Students: Two letters from sponsors who are familiar with the student's
research progress.
Senior Scientists: A self-written letter outlining the importance of
such an award if granted.
Please
note, because this is a travel award, applicants must be present at the meeting
in order to receive their award.
Minority
Biophysicists Travel Grant
Submission Deadline has passed.
All applicants must be a
US citizen or a Permanent Resident of the US (verification of citizenship/residency
is required.)
The
Biophysical Society has made limited travel support available for minority
students and faculty mentors in the field of biophysics to attend the 2008
Biophysical Society Annual Meeting. Each award will be made to assist in travel
expenses to and lodging expenses in Long Beach. Awards will not exceed $1000.
Selection of scientific awardees will be based on scientific merit.
The
following eligibility requirements must be met:
Student applicants
This application form must be completed and be accompanied by a copy of the
abstract submitted for presentation.
Students must include a written paragraph outlining the implications of their
research and identifying the potential benefits they hope to receive for their
planned research careers. Students must include a letter of recommendation, on
departmental letterhead, from the student’s advisor or professor.
Mentor applicants
This application form must be completed and be accompanied by a copy of the
abstract submitted for presentation.
Mentors must include a current copy of their CV. Mentors must submit a letter
describing the anticipated benefits derived from attendance at the Annual
Meeting. The discussion should identify the specific benefits that are expected
for oneself and one’s institution and the education program in the biomedical
sciences.
The application form, student or mentor
required information, and copy of abstract submitted for presentation at the
Annual Meeting (4 copies of each), must reach the Society Office no later than
October 1, 2007. Winners will be notified in November; however, payment of the
award will be presented at the Minority Biophysicists and Student Travel Award
Reception, Room 203 A/B on Saturday, February 2, 2008, in the Long Beach Convention
Center.
Student
Research Achievement Award (SRAA)
Submission Deadline has passed.
The
Biophysical Society will give monetary awards to the graduate student making
the best poster presentation in each subcategory (see below) entered in
the competition at the Annual Meeting. The Award is only given for poster
presentations. No platform sessions will be considered for the Award.
To
participate in the SRAA Poster Competition, the following rules apply:

The student
must be a member of the Biophysical Society with current dues paid by the
Abstract deadline.
-
The student
must be the first author on the abstract submitted to this Annual Meeting.
If the student is not the sole author, the student’s mentor must write
a statement that the student is the principal force involved in the work.
-
The student
must present the poster at the meeting.
-
By the
Abstract deadline, the student must send to the Society Office two copies
of:
-
A
completed application form.
-
A copy
of the abstract submitted to the Annual Meeting.
-
The mentor’s
statement, if required.
Student
Travel Award
Submission Deadline has passed.
The
Biophysical Society has limited travel support available for undergraduate and
graduate student members who are recommended by their advisors to attend the
2008 Joint Biophysical Society Meeting and IUPAB International Congress. Each
travel award may be used towards roundtrip airfare to the Meeting site not to
exceed $500.00. Selection of scientific awardees will be based on scientific
merit. Priority will be given to those presenting papers at the meeting.
Students’ advisors are expected to recommend only their very best students and
to write letters that provide evidence of their excellent achievements in
research.
The
following eligibility requirements must be met:

The
applicant must be accepted as a student member with 2008 member dues paid by
the application deadline, October 1, 2007. An application form for
membership is located at

The
applicant must not previously have received a Student travel award from the
Biophysical Society.
-
The
student applicant must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the Annual
Meeting site.

The
following materials are required at time of online submission:

A
letter of recommendation from an advisor who must be a regular member in
good standing of the Society.

A
copy of the abstract submitted for presentation at the Annual Meeting.
-
A personal statement including student's role in the research project,
the stage they are at in their undergraduate or graduate education, why
they wish to attend the Meeting, and identifying the potential benefits
they hope to receive for their planned research careers
