Charge
The Program Committee shall assist and advise the Program Chair in organization of the Annual Meeting program.  The program must respond to and serve the needs of the membership, which represents diverse scientific, technical and educational constituencies.  The Annual Meeting should accommodate conferees' desires to share their results with their colleagues; to meet and discuss matters of interest to themselves and their colleagues; to learn about important advances in other areas of biophysics; and to advance their technical, analytical, and other skills needed for their career development goals. Special attention needs to be given to the experiences of junior members of the society who may be attending a national meeting for the first time.

The Program Chair is expected to present the proposed program for approval to the New Council and Board at the Annual Meeting prior to the one he or she is planning.

Establishment
Approved by Executive Board, September 1998 as an ad hoc committee.  First committee established at 1999 Annual Meeting in Baltimore to work on 2000 meeting.  Modified in 2002 to include two representatives from the Professional Development Committee, bringing the number of rotating members to five.

Membership
Five rotating, members: Program Chair, Past-Chair, two members of Council elected by Council to serve three-year terms, two Society committee members nominated from the Professional Development Committee and approved by Council to serve three-year staggered terms.  Additional members may be appointed by the Program Chair so that all areas of biophysics are covered and serving only for that year.  Council and PDC members’ terms shall be staggered so that each program committee shall have at least one member who served in a previous year.  The Council members shall be selected to assure that the Program Committee members represent the range of interests and concerns of the Society membership.  The previous year’s Program Chair participates in meeting as consultant.
